Cardiff Bay is the area of water created by the Cardiff Barrage and is also the name commonly given to the areas of the city surrounding the Bay. The creation of Cardiff Bay is now widely regarded as one of the most successful regeneration projects in the UK. There is plenty to do in Cardiff Bay with an array of restaurants, bars and coffee shops surrounding Mermaid Quay, plus endless sporting activities such as white water rafting, high ropes, an Olympic size swimming pool and the Cardiff Bay Barrage walk to Penarth to name a few.
If you choose to rent or buy in Cardiff Bay, you would probably live in a flat in a modern apartment block. If you are looking to buy or rent a house in Cardiff Bay, Victorian terraces can be found in streets such as Windsor Esplanade or newer houses a little further out in Windsor Quay and Watkiss Way.
The Doctor Who spin-off show, Torchwood, was filmed and set in Cardiff Bay. The show saw fan-favourite Ianto Jones meet an untimely end. Fans were obviously devastated as there is still a shrine dedicated to the character in Mermaid Quay.
There are many restaurants in Cardiff Bay and also events that take place throughout the year. You can also get on the Aqua Bus from Mermaid Quay which takes you on a beautiful trip from Cardiff Bay to Bute Park in the City Centre. Or you can take board on a cruise around the Bay instead.
You can walk into Cardiff city centre from Mermaid Quay in about 20 minutes, plus there is a train station, buses and regular water taxis to Penarth and the City Centre (the water taxi stops behind Cardiff Castle).
Mount Stuart Primary and St Cuthberts are feeder schools for Fitzalan and other nearby Cardiff secondary schools.
